An Overwatch Attack is a ranged attack made while in Overwatch Mode against an enemy that triggers your Overwatch Zone. Overwatch Attacks are 😮 Reactions.
Triggers
An Overwatch Attack is triggered when a hostile creature within your Overwatch Zone:
- Moves through the Overwatch Zone (moving from one tile to another within the zone).
- Attacks from within the Overwatch Zone (makes any type of attack while positioned inside your zone).
You may choose not to fire when a trigger occurs, conserving your remaining Overwatch Attacks for other targets.
Resolving an Overwatch Attack
An Overwatch Attack is resolved like a normal ranged attack with the following details:
- Firing Mode: You use the firing mode chosen when you entered Overwatch Mode (Single Fire or Burst Fire). You cannot change this between Overwatch Attacks.
- Accuracy: Roll a standard ⚔ Attack. Apply all normal modifiers including range, Cover, and weapon bonuses.
- Recoil: The Recoil Rule applies.
- Damage: Resolve damage normally, including DT, DR, CRIT Dice, and all applicable perks and milestone effects.
- Ammunition: Each Overwatch Attack consumes ammunition normally based on the firing mode.
Timing
- Overwatch Attacks resolve during the triggering enemy’s turn, interrupting their action.
- If the trigger is movement, the Overwatch Attack resolves before the enemy completes the move to their destination tile. If the Overwatch Attack kills or incapacitates the enemy, they do not reach their destination.
- If the trigger is an attack, the Overwatch Attack resolves before the enemy’s attack. If the Overwatch Attack inflicts an Injury or Injury Escalation on a relevant limb (e.g., an arm for ranged attacks), the enemy’s attack may fail.
- If multiple enemies trigger the Overwatch Zone simultaneously (e.g., two enemies moving on the same turn), the Overwatch character chooses the order in which to resolve attacks, one at a time.
Limitations
- You may only make as many Overwatch Attacks as your Overwatch Attack allowance (determined when entering Overwatch Mode).
- Once your Overwatch Attack allowance is expended, you can no longer fire until your next turn.
- Overwatch Attacks consume your 😮 Reaction capacity. While in Overwatch Mode, you may not use any other Reactions (Opportunity Attacks, Warden, Riposte, Hit the Deck, etc.).
- If your weapon runs out of ammunition during Overwatch, you cannot reload — Overwatch Mode ends and any remaining Overwatch Attacks are lost.
Overwatch Attack and Free Reactions
Because Overwatch consumes your 😮 Reaction capacity entirely, you may not use any 😮 Free Reactions while in Overwatch Mode.
